What's in Your Handbag?

MoneySupermarket currently have a great competition going on called 'What's in Your Handbag?'. On offer is a chance to win a Mulberry Bayswater handbag, purse and phone case, with six runners up winning a £25 ASOS voucher...and I fancy my chances!

As a student, there's no denying my handbag is a lot cheaper than the average woman's, there's few designer items and most of my stuff is as high street as you can get, but that won't stop me showing it off (in an awful photo may I add).

My handbag (£19.99) is a pretty average sized over the shoulder tartan bag from New Look. I bought it on a shopping spree in Plymouth last year (if I remember rightly) as I needed a new bag. Since then it has hauled around notepads of work that got me through my A Levels and my first year of university, and its lasted me pretty well. I, of course, always carry my purse, this was bought as a present from my ex-boyfriend (I don't still use it for sentimentality, I simply like it a lot, but it is rather tatty and worn...so a new purse would be lovely!). It's by Disaster Designs, in which I absolutely love, and retails at £20. Inside my purse are the essentials, bank cards, rail card, student card, house key etc. and they're all pretty valuable! And lucky me it also has £10.29 in it!

Then there's my make-up bag. My make up bag is in tatters and was a gift from my sister, so I can't be sure of the price, but I imagine it was around £5. I've just done a clear out of the rubbish I don't use so here's a peak into my newly rejuvenated (I know, it doesn't look that way) make-up bag: I've got my foundation; Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream at £7.99, and Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder at £3.99. My eye make-up routine involves Body Collection Eye Shadow at £1.49 (Student prices here! I'm not always fussy on big brands, this eye shadow does the job!), Liquid Eye Liner at £3.99 and a cheap-ass mascara at £2.99. The extras thrown into my make-up bag are a mini mirror, hair grips, Barry M Dazzle Dust, tweezers and lipstick, which tot up to £15.57.

I also always carry facial wipes - £1 and as it's summer, sun cream! I unintentionally bought the smallest possible bottle of Ambre Solaire at £3, but it turns out the size is handbag friendly! My glasses are always in my bag too...except for right now...I've misplaced them after moving back from Uni, but they're Red or Dead reading glasses, worth £89 (I got them at a £10 steal, thank you NHS!).

I've then got my phone - £49.99, my ipod (which has also disappeared in the move) - which is a 3rd generation nano which a friend gave to me (for free!) which is probably worth about £20 these days. And finally there's my camera (not pictured...as I was using it!) which I rarely go anywhere without, my little bright red Nikon coolpix - £49.99.

My handbag and its contents tot up to a whopping (it's whopping for me) £304.28. That seems ridiculous to me! Maybe I'm not as cheap as I once thought!
