A Tattoo at a Time

As I said the other day, my boyfriend, over at MGThompson Photography, is working on a new project - a tattoo project. As many of you who do or even don't have tattoos will know there can still be a stigma surrounding them. I, for instance, don't know exactly what I want to do as a future career, so the current tattoo I have and future ones will all be in discreet places until I decide what exactly it is that I want to do, I know I chose to do it this way, but I wouldn't want to affect my future career prospects.

So, Matt decided to do this project specifically with young people, and I really loved his reasoning for it:

'Despite them certainly coming into vogue in the last few decades, they still hold a 'rebel-ish' quality. I want to show the world that their next generation of lawyers, doctors, teachers, politicians etc. may well carry body art - and that doesn't affect their ability to be amazing at it.'

I think it's really important that people can freely get tattoos without any judgement being passed, tattoos can carry particularly sentimental meanings to anyone who chooses to get them - they don't define who you are and what you're capable of. Why should a possible employer decide whether or not your ink will affect your ability to do a job well? Of course, I do believe attitudes have changed a considerable amount and it's so common these days to ink your memories or just to ink something you love onto your skin.

And I think a photography project focusing on young people with tattoos is a really interesting thing to do, some people have detailed personal stories behind them, others like me, just liked the design. I think it's brilliant that you can ink something onto your skin that can be a reminder of someone or something that only you and the people you explain it to will understand. And tattoos are pretty awesome!

I had a great time participating in this project, and I'm sure all the other models involved did too, and I can't wait to see the finished result of it. Keep an eye out for its unveiling!

In the meantime, feel free to like this!

And for now I shall leave you with some behind the scenes from yesterday's shoot:

This is Matt and his lovely assistant who spent 4 hours photographing many models with some awesome tattoos.

My turn! I took a step into the (bloody boiling) spotlight!

Finishing up; Matt photographing Steph, his assistant and final model of the project.
